Callum McManaman happy with fitness progress and hungry to go again.
Speaking after Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic at the DW Stadium, Callum McManaman said it was an afternoon he enjoyed, and admitted a feeling of relief fell over Latics.
Two goals in the space of two minutes towards the end of the game from Marc-Antoine Fortune and Jordi Gomez turned things around after Latics fell behind in the third minute.
Throughout the afternoon McManaman proved a menace with his direct attacking down the wings, something he said made the performance enjoyable:
“It was a strange first half because I was enjoying the space and chances that were coming my way, but it was so frustrating that we couldn’t score and then of course I hit the cross bar.
“Those chances not paying off for us just gave the whole team even more hunger to make sure we turned things around and that’s exactly what we did.
“We were delighted and it’s one of those results we might be looking back on at the end of the season and saying it’s a great win.”
McManaman completed the full 90 minutes on Saturday and added that his hard work on the training ground is starting to pay off:
“I feel as strong as I’ve felt all season and I tried to show that on Saturday by going at the full backs which is something I enjoy in my game.
“I’m delighted to have got another 90 minutes under my belt because I’ve been working hard on being 100% match fit all season and now it’s starting to show.
“I can’t wait to go again in the next game now and we’re playing at Huddersfield Town where I enjoyed one of my best games last season, so I’m excited.”
Focussing on the impact made by Uwe Rosler’s three substitutions, McManaman said:
“When we can bring players like Josh McEachran, Marco and Jordi into games it just shows how strong our squad is.
“Josh’s pass for the equaliser was perfect and you can see the quality he’s got already.
“It’s a great finish by Jordi for the winner, but Marco’s finish was the important one I feel, because it gave us that self-belief that we would go on and get a second.
“All three of Saturday’s subs got involved and they’ve got to take a lot of praise for the impact they made.”
