Holgersson, McEachran, Ramis and Rogne feature in Development Squad draw.

A number of first team names got 90 minutes under their belts as Wigan Athletic drew 0-0 with Port Vale in the Final Third Development League.



Markus Holgersson, Josh McEachran, Ivan Ramis and Thomas Rogne all got game time in the Development Squad 0-0 draw against Port Vale as both sides cancelled out each other's threats effectively.

The draw means Latics move one point clear the to the top of the Final Third Development League West, with a game in hand over second place Walsall.

Visitors Port Vale made things difficult for Latics all afternoon with compact defending and resilience, but it was a game that the hosts dominated for almost the full 90 minutes.

Holgersson and Ramis formed an effective central defensive partnership, with the former completing a the full 90 minutes and proving a commanding presence as a leader at the back.

McEachran also played the full 90 minutes as he too continues to step his fitness, but he couldn't find that magic pass to unlock the Vale defence, but came close in the second half when his free kick was tipped over the cross bar.

No matter how hard Latics tried Port Vale were not for breaking, but young striker Patrick Antelmi put in a solid shift as he tried to find that crucial goal, coming close on a number of occasions with efforts narrowly wide.

Latics eventually had to settle for a point, but they have finally put daylight between themselves and second place Walsall.

After the game, debutant Holgersson shared his thoughts on his first appearance in Wigan Athletic colours.

"I was very happy to play and it's been good to step up my match fitness.

"After playing 90 minutes I feel ready for selection and I'll certainly be knocking on the gaffer's door.

"The game was a little frustrating, certainly the result because Port Vale did their job very well and we couldn't get past them.

"We've got to be happy with our own resolve too though because we remained very solid in defence."
