Head back to 2005 as we look at Latics' 4-2 victory against Brighton in 2005.

In the build-up to Wigan Athletic's first ever trip to the AMEX Stadium this weekend, we look back to the last time Latics travelled to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Withdean Stadium in 2005.

A blistering start by Paul Jewell's Latics saw Jimmy Bullard, Lee McCulloch, Gary Teale and Jason Roberts all on the score sheet inside the first 34 minutes at the Withdean Stadium as Latics maintained their lead at the top of the Championship, level on points with fellow promotion chasers Sunderland.

The victory was Latics third in a row and sixth in their last seven games, starting in style with a Bullard volley, adding to it were two smart finishes from Scottish pair McCulloch and Teale, before Roberts' header rounded off a rapid opening.

Bullard announced himself in the contest after just two minutes when he volleyed Nathan Ellington's cushioned header into the top right corner from 25 yards, grabbing his third goal of the season and setting his side on their way.

Latics' forceful start continued just two minutes later when Leighton Baines crossed from the left for McCulloch, who deftly flicked the ball around his marker before volleying in right footed for 2-0.

A third goal followed on 17 minutes and this time Latics' right side got involved when bullish forward play from Roberts down the middle set up Teale arriving from the right to coolly finish into the bottom left corner.

Rami Shaaban was beaten for a fourth time just after the half an hour mark as Brighton's misery continued, this time Roberts got himself on the score sheet, heading McCulloch's cross into the top left corner.

Latics' hold on the game slipped slightly on 36 minutes when Adam Virgo wriggled free of Ian Breckin on the edge of the penalty area and poked his effort underneath John Filan.

Boss Jewell was left unimpressed with his side's second half performance after what he described as a 'tremendous first half' wasn't followed up.

Despite this opinion, Latics were rarely worried, until Dean Hammond headed in a late consolation on 83 minutes to reduce the Seagulls' deficit.

Victory at the Withdean moved Latics onto 75 points from 36 games, level with Sunderland and three points above third place Ipswich Town.
