Latics secured their third straight draw in a row in the Youth Alliance as they battled back from 2-0 down against Preston North End, with substitute Matthew Hamilton and top goal scorer Sam Cosgrove pulling the game back to 2-2 in difficult conditions at Christopher Park.
Preston, who started the day looking to leapfrog eighth place Latics, took the lead just before half time and doubled it shortly after the hour mark, before Hamilton's close range finish and Cosgrove's last minute header moved Latics up to 22 points for the season.
A blustery Christopher Park made for a difficult environment for both teams, with chances limited due to the unpredictable nature of the conditions.
Latics had an early flurry with chances for Dwayne Foster and captain Danny Leigh, but Preston soon asserted themselves to test Latics' stopper Callum Mulby.
Mulby kept North End at bay until the 42nd minute when Sean Holmes headed in from a Tyler Forbes free kick to make it 1-0.
Declan Poole and Liam Lambert both came close just after half time, with the latter seeing his free kick bypass everyone in the penalty area before creeping wide of the post.
The visitors saw a Jack Ryan goal chalked off for an earlier foul, but it didn't take them long to register a second goal when Ryan teed up North End's captain Forbes for 2-0.
Latics made an immediate response and just four minutes after coming on for Foster, Hamilton scored his fourth goal of the season with a tidy close range finish.
At 2-1 Latics had everything to play for and the pressure mounted on Preston as the screw was turned.
With just moments remaining on the clock the pressure paid off and Cosgrove added his 18th goal of the campaign in just 15 appearances as he rose unchallenged above the defence to head home, making it three games unbeaten for his side.
