Uwe Rosler excited by arrival of Ryan Tunnicliffe.
After signing Fulham midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe on loan earlier today, Uwe Rosler welcomed the ‘very well educated’ former Manchester United youngster into his Wigan Athletic squad, saying the 21-year-old will add an extra dimension:
“Ryan is a promising young player who has experience in the Championship.
“He is a very well educated footballer having come through the ranks at Manchester United and he will add a very good understanding of the game to our engine room in midfield.
“He has the potential to be a very good Premier League player and he will add an extra dimension to the way we play.”
Tunnicliffe arrives at the DW Stadium following the season ending injury to Ben Watson, not that he is a direct replacement in Rosler’s eyes, as the manager added:
“We want to put pressure on teams and Ryan fits that way of playing, he’s a welcome addition particularly after the injury to Ben Watson.
“He’s not the same type of player as Ben.
“To get a like-for-like player in at this time of year is impossible, but we’ve got ourselves a very talented young player who has already proved himself in the Championship.
“He is a physical player with lots of energy and with the match programme we have coming up we needed to add another player who can play our style.”
With Latics now just one point away from the play-off places in the Championship, Rosler added that for Tunnicliffe to join Latics for the remainder of the season is a compliment to the direction in which his side are heading.
“It’s a huge compliment for Ryan to sign for us on loan with other clubs interested in him, so I’m delighted that he’s chosen us.
“Ryan sees us as a team that is pushing for the play-offs and he wants to be successful with us, which makes him and Wigan Athletic a good match.
“He’s also a North West lad from the Manchester area, so he knows a lot about the club and everything was right for this move.”
