Latics manager lauds ‘key appointment’ to backroom staff

Wigan Athletic are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Haslam as the club’s new Head of Performance.

Chris will be responsible for strategic planning of performance management and delivering the optimal performance and fitness of players.

In modern football the analysis of player data in training and matches is crucial to the development of the team’s strength, speed and power and Chris’s expertise in the area of fitness analytics and nutrition will enable individual and team training programmes to be designed to allow players to reach their full potential in terms of performance and fitness levels.

Manager Uwe Rosler highlighted the key attributes Chris will bring to the role, saying:
“I gave him the chance to work with the first team at Brentford and he did a tremendous job in bringing the team’s fitness levels up to where they need to be for my style of football.

“He’s very qualified, educated and willing to work his way to the top of English football and I’m delighted to have him in our team. He is a fantastic addition for Wigan Athletic and a key appointment to the backroom staff.”

Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson said: “Chris was a highly rated member of Uwe Rosler’s coaching and medical staff at Brentford, who are currently at the top of League One, and we are delighted that he has chosen to join Wigan Athletic as we look forward to a very important second half of the season. “

Chris said: “It was a difficult decision for me to leave Brentford, a club where I have been very happy, and I would like to thank the club for all their help and support. But this is an exciting new challenge for me and I am looking forward to teaming back up with Uwe and helping the team here in Wigan.”
