New football programme launched for Women and Girls in Wigan
Wigan Athletic Community Trust have teamed up with the FA and the Premier League to try and encourage more girls in Wigan to play football.
The Latics have appointed a new Girls Football and Sports coach who will be promoting the girls football and running coaching sessions in schools, college and the community across Wigan.
To help launch the programme, the Community Trust was joined by England and Doncaster Belles forward Sue Smith at a coaching session at St John Rigby College.
Weekly Sessions:
Monday
3pm – 4.15pm, Standish High School, Kenyan Road, Standish, Wigan, WN6 0NY
6pm – 7pm, Wigan Youth Zone, Parsons Walk, Wigan, WN1 1RU
Tuesday
3.30pm- 4.30pm, St Mary’s Catholic High School, Manchester Road, Astley, M29 7EE
Wednesday
3.15pm – 4.15pm, Cansfield High School, Old Road, Ashton in Makerfield, WN4 9TP
Thursday
3.30pm – 4.30pm, St Peters Catholic High School, Howard Lane, Orrell, WN5 8NU
6pm- 7pm, Wigan Youth Zone, Parsons Walk, Wigan, WN1 1RU
Friday
3pm – 4pm, Bedford High School, Manchester Road, Leigh, WN7 21U
All the coaching is free and open to girls over the age 12 apart from sessions at the Wigan Youth Zone which cost just 50p and players must be members of the centre.
