If you have had one to many mince pies over the Christmas period or just want to start the New Year in a positive way then the Wigan Fit Fans programme could be just for you.
Free and open to men over the age of 25, the 12 week programme gives supporters the chance to play football and sport with coaches from Wigan Athletic Community Trust while also receiving simple tips on how to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Since the programme began over 100 become have taken part in the scheme with 70% of them losing weight, but all of them having a good time, making friends and feeling better about themselves.
Everyone who finishes the programme is given their own Wigan Athletic home shirt which is presented to them by an ex-Latics player.
David Jones, 26 who completed the programme in September said: "Fit Fans motivated me because of the football related fitness, I love to play football and keep fit because my working life is driving a forklift truck. I would recommend the programme to anyone as it was fun but hard work at the same time!"
Wigan Athletic Community Trust will be running two 12 week Fit Fans courses starting in January:
Starting Monday January 27th, 6pm- 8pm: Hindley All Saints Primary School, Chapel Fields Lane, Wigan, WN2 3QS.
Starting Tuesday January 28th, 6pm – 8pm: Montrose Skills Hub, Montrose Avenue, Pemberton, Wigan, WN5 9XN.
The Wigan Fit Fans programme is supported by the Premier League/PFA Community Fund and the Bridgewater NHS Healthcare Trust.
