Commemorative stones recognise Wigan Athletic's FA Cup glory.

There were two new arrivals at the DW Stadium earlier this week, when commemorative stones were installed to recognise the achievements of the club and Chairman Dave Whelan following last season’s FA Cup triumph.

Presented to the club by the FA, the stones serve as a constant reminder of last May’s FA Cup Final, and the individual journey made by Chairman Dave Whelan from his involvement in the 1960 cup final with Blackburn Rovers to finally lifting the famous trophy in 2013.
Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson said:

“We were delighted when the FA contacted to inform us they would be providing the commemorative stones, and I have to say they look fantastic.

“The same stones have been installed at Wembley Stadium also and serve as a constant reminder of that incredible day back in May.

“But whilst one stones recognises the Final itself I think it’s a lovely gesture by the FA to produce another which references our Chairman’s personal affinity with the cup and the journey he had from 1960 all the way to 2013.

“He is delighted with them, and as soon as he saw them he insisted they be positioned at the front of the stadium so that everyone had the chance to see them.”
