Lee Nicholls welcomes former Northampton team mate Emyr Huws to Latics.
- Huws is techniclly superb says Nicholls.
- Keeper impressed by former team mates progression.
- Goals at Birmingham are a sign of midfielder's ability.
Lee Nicholls took time out of his pre-season schedule, catching up with wiganathletic.com to discuss the arrival of Emyr Huws.
20-year-old midfielder Huws and 21-year-old Nicholls spent time together on loan at Northampton Town in the 2012-13 season and the goalkeeper says Latics have captured a player of superb technical ability.
“Emyr is a ball player who loves to get involved as much as possible and pass; I think he’ll be a good addition to the team and to the way we play.
“We lived together in the same hotel at Northampton so I got to know him quite well and I think he’ll fit straight in here.”
“He’s left footed and his technical ability is superb.
“Watching him play at Northampton, he made everyone around him feel comfortable because players knew he would find them with a pass every time; I was very impressed.
“He played on the left, through the middle and even just behind the striker and every game he played well.”
Huws’ progression since 2012-13 has seen him make his debut for Manchester City and Wales, as well as playing in the Sky Bet Championship last season for Birmingham City, something which Nicholls says is a mark of how impressive a player he is:
“It was two years ago that we played together and he’s progressed so much from then, going on loan to Birmingham and making his debut for the Welsh national team is a great step up.
“Last season he was on loan at Birmingham and scored a couple of fantastic goals with his left foot, that’s a great asset to have in the team.”
