New signing settling in well.

Latics new signing James Tavernier says he’s enjoyed his first month as a Latics player after impressing in pre-season.

The right-sided player has been ever-present throughout Latics preparations for the 2014-15 campaign, scoring his first goal in fine style in the 2-1 defeat at Rochdale last weekend.

And Tavernier, who has played as a right-wing back and centrally in the early preparations, says he’s pleased with how he’s adapting to life at the DW Stadium.

“I’m enjoying it yes, it’s a new position at wing back for me this year,” he explained. “I’m still finding my feet, getting used to the role in a new formation but I want to keep whipping the ball in as I have been to create opportunities.

“I felt comfortable in the centre as well; I’ve played in there a couple of times and I really enjoyed it on Tuesday.

“A big part of my game is delivery and if I can stick on the set-pieces then that would be great so hopefully we’ll get a lot more goals when I put them in.”

Tavernier signed in time to join the rest of the squad on the pre-season training camp in Germany earlier in the month and he says he’s pleased with how he’s settled in with his new team-mates.

“I’ve settled in great,” Tavernier said. “The lads and the staff have made me feel really welcome; it was a good trip away in Germany and I’ve got to know the lads even more, it’s a good group of lads.

“We’re looking forward to Wednesday now and getting away to Germany again, hopefully we’ll come out strong from that trip and be ready for Reading on the first day.”
