DW Stadium is travelling supporters’ favourite.

Wigan Athletic away was Championship supporters favourite away trip of the season, according to a new survey published by the Football Supporters Federation this week.

The DW Stadium beat Reading’s Madejski Stadium and Blackburn Rovers’ Ewood Park as providing the best overall away-day experience in the division, with supporters judging football venues on everything from price, safety and security to transport to the ground, access at the turnstiles, the concourse layout, food and drink and the view of the pitch.

Likelihood of victory was not among the main reasons football fans travelled, according to the survey – and Latics would certainly not have won on that score as the DW Stadium boasted one of the best home records in the league last season.

Jonathan Jackson, Chief Executive, said:

“It’s good to be top of the table. We pride ourselves as a club in providing the best possible experience for all fans, home and away. The DW Stadium is a first class facility. It has superb views for every seat, is easy to make your way around and access to and from the stadium is excellent.

“Our club ethos is to provide excellent customer service at all times and it would appear that this survey demonstrates that we continue to achieve this standard.

“Visiting supporters are very well catered for, they have exclusive access to the Marquee bar under the North Stand, and a segregation-free stand with a perfect view of the action. We feel that supporters should be treated the same, no matter whether they are cheering the home or the away team.”
