Latics head to Portman Road in the Sky Bet Championship this Saturday
Ipswich Town v Wigan Athletic
Sky Bet Championship
Saturday 15 March 2014, kick off 3.00pm
Wigan Athletic will play their third game in six days at Portman Road this Saturday where Uwe Rosler’s side go in search of their eighth consecutive victory in all competitions.
Last Sunday’s famous win over Manchester City in the FA Cup with Budweiser was followed by an equally tough encounter with Sheffield Wednesday at the DW Stadium on Wednesday night, where it took a late penalty that was coolly slotted away by Jordi Gomez to keep Latics’ winning streak on track. Saturday’s opponents Ipswich Town will also provide another stern test for Uwe Rosler's men.
Mick McCarthy’s team sit two places and four points behind Latics in the Sky Bet Championship table and will be quietly harbouring play off hopes of their own.
McCarthy could name an unchanged Ipswich side but Frank Nouble may miss out with a hamstring problem, while Anthony Wordsworth (back) and David McGoldrick (knee) will watch from the sidelines.
Wigan will be without the service of Roger Espinoza who has undergone a hernia operation this week, a further blow to the midfield following the injuries to Ben Watson and Chris McCann. Nick Powell could be pushing for a starting place after coming on from the bench in Wednesday’s win over Sheffield Wednesday.
