JORDI GOMEZ AGREES SUNDERLAND SWITCH

29 May 2014

Jordi Gomez agrees deal with Sunderland.

Spanish midfielder Jordi Gomez has agreed terms with Premier League outfit Sunderland AFC this afternoon.

The 29-year-old moves to the Stadium of Light following a five-year stay at the DW Stadium.

Joining from Espanyol in 2009 after a loan spell with Swansea City, he went on to make 161 appearances, scoring 28 goals in a Latics shirt.

Gomez was twice offered an improved contract with Latics, though the Club accepts the lure of the Premier League was attractive to Jordi at this stage of his career.

Voted Player of the Year and Away Player of the Year at the Club’s End of Season Dinner, Gomez, who will be remembered for many fine goals in his time at the DW Stadium including this season’s wonder goal at Nottingham Forest and his memorable curling drive to put Latics 3-0 up at Everton on our way to FA Cup success in 2013, moves to the north-east with our best wishes for the future.

Thanks for the memories Jordi.
