‘I hope many Latics fans can take part in this great event – Uwe Rosler’
Wigan Athletic and manager Uwe Rosler are urging supporters of all ages to take part in Wigan Rotary’s RUN 4 A LIFE event to be held on Sunday 6th July at the DW Stadium, where thousands of Wiganers take part in what is always a hugely colourful event.
The 5Km fun-run, now in its tenth year, has so far raised over £80,000 for men’s cancer research.
Manager Uwe Rosler said: ‘When you hear about fit and healthy sportsmen being affected it brings it home to you how vulnerable we all are. It would be great to see hundreds of Latics shirts on the day of the run.’
Terry Hogan, President of Wigan Rotary, said: ‘the number of men affected by testicular or prostate cancer each year would fill the DW Stadium ten times over, and yet only half the amount of money is spent on men’s cancer research compared to women’s. Anyone can take part in the event and you can run, jog, or walk the route, which is just over three miles. We are very grateful to Wigan Athletic and Uwe for their support.’
Male cancer is an issue which has been in the news recently with the tragic death of young West Ham United player Dylan Tombides, who fought testicular cancer for three years, and former Arsenal goalkeeper and veteran broadcaster Bob Wilson, who is undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.
