Experienced coach David Kerslake joins Latics as four departures confirmed.

  • David Kerslake joins Latics coaching staff.
  • Former QPR, Leeds and Tottenham man to work as a first team coach.
  • Kerslake worked with Malky Mackay at Watford and Cardiff.
Malky Mackay’s former Watford and Cardiff right hand man David Kerslake has joined Wigan Athletic as a first team coach, working alongside Assistant Manager Graham Barrow and fellow first team coach Eric Black.

New Latics manager Mackay is delighted to bring him on board, and said:

“David is a highly experienced coach I know and trust and his knowledge will become a great asset to the club.“

Londoner Kerslake was an England Youth International who went on to make over 250 Football League appearances as a defender for QPR, Swindon Town, Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and Ipswich Town.

Whilst at Portman Road, he was loaned to Wycombe Wanderers in 1998, facing Latics for the only time in his career in a 2-1 home defeat with Roberto Martinez and David Lee on the score-sheet for Ray Mathias’ side in 1998.

His first coaching role came under former Swindon teammate Colin Calderwood at Nottingham Forest, where he worked with James Perch. He moved on to join Malky Mackay at Watford as a coach before following him to Cardiff City as Assistant Manager.

Meanwhile, the club can confirm that four of Uwe Rosler’s staff have left the club, Head of Recruitment David Downes, Chief Scout Tony Coton, Head of Performance Chris Haslam and Head of Athletic Development Callum Walsh.
