The Development Squad head into this local derby with mixed fortunes as of late, having won, lost and drawn in their previous three games.
Last time out saw a 3-3 draw played out at Christopher Park against Tranmere Rovers in the Final Third Development League, having lost to Port Vale the week before, following on from an impressive 3-1 away win at Nottingham Forest in the Under 21 Premier League Cup.
Opponents Bolton approach the clash having draw their last three games in a row, but are unbeaten since 29 September.
The two sides enter the competition at this stage after byes in the first round. Latics and Bolton met in the 2013/14 semi-final back in April, with a penalty from Tim Chow and late strike from Ryan Jennings claiming a 2-1 victory.
Latics went on to meet Bury in the final in August, drawing 1-1 but losing out 4-2 in the resulting penalty shootout.
The winner of this tie will go on to face either Blackburn Rovers or Manchester United in the semi-final.
