Wigan students take part in Premier League organised Enterprise Challenge.

Pupils from ten Wigan schools and community groups have accepted the Premier League’s Enterprise Challenge for 2014/15: to think up ways in which their local football club, Wigan Athletic, can increase the number of families attending home matches.

Wigan Athletic’s challenge was launched at the DW Stadium earlier this month, with Head of Commercial, Ian Laithwaite, introducing ideas to the youngsters such as the Team Latics Hub, the Family Day game and other ways in which the club already engage with families on match days.

The school children will receive support sessions from Community Trust staff in the lead up to club heats early next year, where six teams will be selected to present their ideas to a number of Wigan Athletic representatives. The winners will then go on to represent the club at a national level.

Ian Laithwaite said: ‘It’s brilliant to see local students getting involved with the Enterprise Challenge and thinking of new and innovative ways in which the club can improve their services to families on a matchday. I look forward to hearing their presentations and business ideas.’

Wigan Athletic Community Trust have been running Enterprise projects with the support of the Premier League since 2012.
