Latics extended their current unbeaten run of eight games in all competitions in style, with a 5-0 home victory over Fleetwood Town making it six straight wins in the Football League Youth Alliance, the highlight of which saw Sam Cosgrove score four goals.
Cosgrove had a hat-trick inside 33 minutes, netting his first just seconds into the game. The four goals on Saturday morning saw him go onto 12 goals for the season, all 12 coming in the last seven games.
The 5-0 victory is Latics' second of the same scoreline this season, having dispatched of Wrexham in August.
Cosgrove took the plaudits with his goal tally, but it was another impressive team performance from Peter Atherton's side who triumphed in difficult conditions.
Less than a minute in and Cosgrove gave Latics the lead, latching onto the end of one of many flowing team moves at Christopher Park.
Louis Robles collected the ball on the edge of the area, before knocking it back to Adrian Purzycki who found Alex Cvetkovic wide on the right hand side. Cvetkovic's cross was low and hard into the area, with Cosgrove arriving at the back post to tap home following Josh Gregory's dummy in the centre of the area.
On 26 minutes Cosgrove made it 2-0, this time teed up by Robles after tenacious midfield dribbling from Purzycki. The Polish midfielder, who has been called up to face England this month, sent Robles in behind down the right side, and the striker's cross found partner Cosgrove, who took a touch before lifting the ball high into the roof of the net.
With just 33 minutes on the clock it became 3-0 and Cosgrove was celebrating a first half hat-trick. Another great team goal this time saw the striker initially hold the ball up just inside the Fleetwood half, before bringing Gregory into play in the middle. The central midfielder found Cvetkovic wide right, and his low cross found a sliding Cosgrove in the area for the finish.
Latics created numerous chances throughout the second half, but Fleetwood's resolve was broken six minutes from time when Cosgrove added his fourth of the afternoon, again a cross from the right being swept home by the prolific front man.
For individual skill, Latics left the best goal until last when Cvetkovic scored his fifth of the campaign, an arched right footed effort from the edge of the area, across the keeper and in off the top left angle of the crossbar and post.
The midfielder's strike was a fitting way to end a dominant display which sent Latics into second in the Youth Alliance.
