Shakerley participants put forward for Outstanding Achievement in Sport award.

Following their recent successes representing Wigan Athletic Community Trust, two teams from the Shakerley Game On Midnight Leagues project have been nominated for the Outstanding Achievement in Sport award at WISH FM’s 2014 Local Hero Awards.

The teams competed in the Coalfields Regeneration Trust’s Game On inter-regional tournament in Derby earlier this month, coming first and second in the competition and earning the opportunity to go on to represent England in the Game On Home Internationals.

The team members also participated in a tournament launching the North West Kicks League, beating Manchester United in the final to win the overall competition.

The WISH FM Local Hero Awards will take place on Friday 24th October.

The Midnight League Football sessions at Shakerley Common take place on Thursday evenings from 6-8pm and are free for all 12-19 year olds. The sessions are facilitated through a partnership with Coalfields Regeneration Trust and Wigan and Leigh Housing.
