Wigan Athletic Community Trust shortlisted for MBNA North West Football Awards.

Wigan Athletic Community Trust are pleased to announce that they have been selected as finalists in two categories for the MBNA North West Football Awards – Community Initiative of the Year and Community Club of the Year (non-Premier League).

The Community Trust’s Fit Fans scheme has been selected as an entry for Community Initiative of the Year following the scheme’s success since its introduction in 2012. Over 280 men have taken part in the scheme, which aims to use football and sport to help more men in Wigan to become healthier and take part in more physical activity.

The Community Trust has also been chosen as a finalist for Community Club of the Year from outside of the Premier League.

Since 2012 the Trust has increased its income by 130% and extended its reach into 75% of all Wigan schools.

Through its work in schools and from community bases at the Montrose Skills Hub and Wigan Youth Zone, the Trust is working with thousands of people a year running projects based around: Football and Sport, Education, Community Cohesion and Health.

Over the last 12 months the Community Trust worked with 8024 individuals with an aggregate attendance of 86,363.

The finals of the MBNA North West Football Awards will take place on 18th November 2014 at Old Trafford.

The Fit Fans scheme is ran in partnership with Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust and is supported by the Premier League and the PFA.
