Adam Forshaw and Oriol Riera join in with half term Soccer School.
Latics duo Adam Forshaw and Oriol Riera dropped in at the Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s October half-term Soccer School at Abraham Guest this week, taking part in some of the activities, as well as signing autographs for the youngsters.
Adam and Oriol got involved with a team precision competition, to try and score as many goals as possible in 90 seconds through the targets in the Phoenix and Blue goalposts.
It was a close call, with Oriol’s team scoring four times, before Adam’s team edged a victory with an overall total of five.
The players also went head-to-head in a kick-up competition; the scores close once again, and despite some underhand tactics from Oriol, it finished in a draw.
Both players also took part in short friendly matches with the youngsters, something which Adam said he was delighted to be involved with:
‘I think when I was the age of the kid’s here today, if a first-team footballer had turned up at my Soccer School I’d have been over the moon.
‘To have the chance to try and give back to the kids and to show our appreciation for what the coaches do here is great.’
‘I hope that they’ve enjoyed meeting myself and Oriol and that they enjoy the rest of the week at the Soccer School.’
The weeklong course has proven popular once again this half term, with 25 children attending each day.
As well as meeting the players yesterday, the Soccer School will get to visit the DW Stadium later this week for a behind-the-scenes tour.
