HINDLEY KICKS PILOT SCHEME A SUCCESS

14 October 2014

Hindley Kicks to continue following summer pilot scheme success

A 10-week pilot Latics Kicks scheme in Hindley this summer has been so successful that Wigan Athletic Community Trust will now be continuing the scheme throughout winter.

Latics Kicks provides evening football and sports opportunities for 12- 19 year olds and the coaching at Salisbury Playing Fields in Hindley attracted up to 45 young people a night.

The summer activities were set up with the support of ward Councillors James Eccles Churton and James Talbot, local resident Eric Alker and Wigan and Leigh Housing.

Tom Drake, Community Cohesion co-ordinator, said: ‘The pilot scheme at Hindley has proven really popular with the local children and following the success, we now have the opportunity to continue to provide football sessions throughout the winter months.’

‘We’d like to thank the ward Councillors, Hindley residents and Wigan & Leigh Housing for their help in organising a location for the new Latics Kicks session to take place.’

These sessions will now move to Hindey Leisure Centre on a Thursday from 5pm – 6pm.
