  • “I felt the warmth from the fans.” – Figueroa.
  • Chance to play was easy choice for Honduras defender.
  • Figueroa on returning home to Latics.
Speaking after Tuesday night’s game against Millwall, returning defender Maynor Figueroa expressed his gratitude for the welcome he received from supporters as he stepped out onto the pitch for his 201st club appearance, just hours after signing on loan from Hull City.

Second looks at the team sheet would have been common, with the announcement of his return coming just an hour before kick off, but for Figueroa there were no second thoughts about coming back.

The Honduras international defender explained:

“When I was told I would get chance to play and that it would be back here, it was an easy choice.

“I’m very happy to be back home, it feels really good and I’ve already shared some old stories with players I played with last time.”

Figueroa continued:

“Steve Bruce told me about the possibility to come and get game time as I haven’t much this season for Hull, it made complete sense to me.

“I need to play and the manager (Uwe Rosler) needed me to play, so it was a great opportunity for me and I didn’t have to think twice about coming back.

“I know how the club works and everything was right for me to return.”

A huge cheer could be heard as Figueroa’s name was announced in the stadium, something which he took to heart.

“The reception from the fans was great, I really felt the warmth from the supporters and it was nice to hear that the fans still have that love for me here.

“It was emotional for me to be welcomed back by the fans, but I needed to remain focused as there was a job to do.

“Tonight was a tough game, one I thought we should have won, but we will continue to push for three points in every game and I will continue to give everything for the time that I am here.”
