WIGAN ATHLETIC 3
Robles 47, 53
Latics' unbeaten run stretched to six games at the weekend, with three more top drawer goals to boot, as Louis Robles scored twice with Sam Cosgrove scoring the third in a 20 minute spell which saw Peter Atherton's side put the game beyond doubt at home to Blackpool.
Despite some early chances for the visitors, Latics began to put the pressure on just before half time, with all three goals coming in the second half in what was a powerful and dominant period of the game.
Chances for Arnie Baxendale and Alex Cvetkovic before the break were warning shots for Blackpool, but when Robles was sent in over the top of the defence there was no denying the striker his eighth goal of the campaign as he lobbed Blackpool goalkeeper Miles Boney for 1-0.
Six minutes later Robles had his second of the game and ninth of the season, another stunning effort, this time fro 25 yards leaving the goalkeeper no chance as the ball flew into the top corner.
It had been a fine week for the striker, who was named in the League Football Education's apprentice 11 from 1,300 players across Football League youth teams.
Cosgrove got in on the action on 67 minutes, scoring for the fifth game in a row and netting his seventh of the season in style as he curled in an exquisite free kick, with the keeper again well beaten.
Blackpool managed a consolation one minute in stoppage time through Caleb Richards, but the morning belonged to Latics, another forceful attacking display from Atherton's Under 18s.
