Position: Academy Education Officer

Location: Various - primarily Montrose Skills Hub, WN5 9XN

Contract: Part-Time (0.6 FTE – minimum of 25 hours per week)

* There is potential for his role to be combined with the BTEC Teacher role at St John Rigby College

Term: Permanent

Wigan Athletic FC Academy is currently looking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic education specialist to work on a part-time basis supporting our Head of Education & Welfare in the development, implementation, and delivery of core education programmes. The successful candidate will work within all phases of our Academy, including the Under 18 Youth programme and our Under 16 – Under 9 Academy players.

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed individual, who can work independently as well as part of a team, to continually progress the high standard of Education support we currently offer our young players and play an important role in helping Wigan Athletic FC Academy to achieve its goals and develop ‘the person as well as the player’.

Key responsibilities of the role include;

  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma (in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance)
  • Functional Skills
  • Schools Release programme
  • Reviews – 6 weekly progress reviews and 12 weekly performance reviews
  • Informal Education programme and Academy workshops (U9-U16)
  • Facility Management
  • Safeguarding (U9-U16)

Qualifications / responsibilities / skills should include;

  • QTS status - PGCE or equivalent Degree
  • A1 Assessors Award
  • CRB/DBS clearance
  • Safeguarding experience or qualification
  • Excellent ICT skills and knowledge
  • Communication skills especially with young people and parents
  • An interest in sport/football and working with elite performers
