Wigan Athletic players encourage fans to get behind Stoptober scheme

The Wigan Athletic players have shown their support for Stoptober, a mass 28-day quit smoking scheme that Wigan Council are encouraging the people of Wigan Borough to take part in.

The players stepped out to show their support for the scheme, which began last week, and to encourage fans that have already started the challenge to continue their great efforts so far.

Rob Kiernan said: ‘The Stoptober scheme is a brilliant way for fans and the wider Wigan community to come together as a group and try to give up smoking.’

‘The efforts of those who have taken part so far are brilliant and we’d like to encourage the smokers of Wigan to continue the scheme throughout October and to see the benefits quitting smoking can have.’

For people wanting to quit smoking and get healthier, the Community Trust’s Fit Fans programme in partnership with Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust is the ideal place to start.

The 12 week programme is free and courses run across Wigan, giving participants the opportunity to look at all aspects of their health and fitness, including looking at the effects smoking can have.
