Community Trust Premier League 4 Sport badminton volunteer wins WLCT award.

This year's Wigan Leisure Culture Trust Awards took place last weekend and the winner of the Volunteer of the Year award went to a man who has spent many years working closely alongside our Premier League 4 Sport badminton programme.

The winner of this year’s award, Jeff Johnson, has volunteered for several years with our Premier League 4 Sport badminton programme and commits upwards of 10 hours a week volunteering in a variety of roles for badminton programmes around the Wigan area.

Jeff has volunteered with our programme as a coach and mentor, amongst many other roles, and has helped to keep the PL4S badminton programme running smoothly since its introduction.

Earlier this year, Jeff underwent surgery which could have held him back from his volunteering work. However, his determination to help others meant he was able to remain involved with all aspects of his volunteering.

Jeff was also named this year’s Badminton England’s National Volunteer of the Year.

Zac Taylor, our Premier League 4 Sport co-ordinator said: ‘Jeff has contributed a great amount to our Premier League 4 Sport project, optimising what the project is about. He has great knowledge of the game of badminton and creates a secure atmosphere at his sessions, which allows young people to gain confidence, meet new people and learn new skills.’

‘I would like to thank Jeff for his contribution to the Premier League 4 Sport project over the years and hope it can continue for many more years to come.’

Everyone at Wigan Athletic Community Trust would like to congratulate Jeff on receiving his award, as well as thank him for his ongoing contribution to our Premier League 4 Sport programme and the wider Wigan community.
