READ THE MANAGER’S PROGRAMME NOTES

30 September 2014

'Let’s put in a Wigan Athletic performance' - exclusive glimpse of Uwe Rosler’s thoughts ahead of Nottingham Forest.

A new feature which gives Wigan Athletic supporters an insight into the programme notes that manager Uwe Rosler has personally written ahead of tonight’s big Sky Championship match against Nottingham Forest.

Good Evening Everyone…

WIGAN ATHLETIC IS A CLUB THAT THRIVES IN MOMENTS OF ADVERSITY – WE HAVE SHOWN IT FOR YEARS – SO LET’S ALL GO AND PUT IN A REAL WIGAN ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE TONIGHT, ON AND OFF THE PITCH.

Anyone connected with Wigan Athletic – chairman, staff, players, supporters – has a right to be disappointed and hurt with the way things have gone in recent weeks.

We cannot and will not hide away from that. Football is a result-orientated business, we all know that. We all thought we had turned a corner before the last international weekend, but since then things have changed.

To go back to the road of success, we need a positive performance today against a leading team in the Championship.

I believe it’s a good time to meet Forest because the pressure will be on them to maintain their good form and hopefully we can use the underdog situation to bring out the best out of each individual and gain confidence going forwards, Forest will arrive here with the confidence of a team who still unbeaten but I believe that is exactly what we need at the moment.

Tonight is about regaining that magic momentum between our players and supporters for the duration of the 90 minutes, when both can put in maximum effort for us all to experience a positive performance
We have said it many times before.

The Championship is a punishing league where no quarter is given by any team, no matter what league position you are in and it is up to us to approach the game with a positive frame of mind and let our qualities, energy and desire dictate the outcome.

In life, there are two possible reactions when faced with challenges. Either you wilt, or you stand up and fight harder. As a group, we are all fighters and this is the reaction I expect from my staff and the players.

The players need to deliver– that is clear. Our fans are always terrific to the players, even in disappointment, and this is another big night for us all.

Wigan Athletic is a club that thrives in moments of adversity – we have shown it for years – so let’s all go and put a real Wigan Athletic performance in tonight, on and off the pitch.

Enjoy the game

Uwe
