Rosler explains tough call in leaving out Waghorn, Espinoza and Fortune for Huddersfield clash.
- Heart-breaking to leave out Waghorn.
- Tough decision on Espinoza and Fortune.
- McClean came back to integrate into squad.
Speaking after the 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium, Uwe Rosler said he had hard decisions to make leading up to the game, with the omissions of Martyn Waghorn, Roger Espinoza and Marc-Antoine Fortune, explaining:
“I had to make a really tough call because Waggy has done nothing wrong and it broke my heart to tell him he was not involved for Huddersfield.
“It was a tough call to make on Roger and Marco too but those are the decisions you have to make when you have such a strong squad.”
On Waghorn, Rosler added:
“He has been terrific for us, scored a great goal against Birmingham and has worked so hard.
“He was devastated and that shows me the character we have in our players, but I just felt James McClean could also play at left wing back and offer us a different option from the bench if needed.
“James was the option I chose because we have to integrate him back into our side, he was also the right player to go up against Hudson and Lynch because I thought they lacked pace and he could take advantage of that.
“We have a lot of options at our disposal and I try to use them in the best possible way, but I thought the team who played at Blackburn deserved another crack at it against Huddersfield.”
