A smartly taken free kick from Louis Robles and a clever finish from Sam Cosgrove after an excellent passing move led Latics to their first away win of the season in the Football League Youth Alliance, overcoming Carlisle United 2-1.

Robles' seventh goal of the season had Latics ahead on the hour mark against the young Cumbrians, before Jack Elliott equalised not long after.  Cosgrove then netted his first of the season, rounding off a flowing forward move with a well placed strike.

Latics turned in another impressive performance coming off the back of last week's 1-1 draw away at Burnley, but despite a solid first half display, the goals would only come after half time.

The opener was something right from the training ground as Cosgrove and Robles stood over the ball, the former faking a shot, before the latter curled the ball low around the edge of the wall and into the bottom right corner.

Robles picked up his seventh goal in just nine games so far in 2014/15.

Carlisle got themselves on level terms shortly after through left sider Elliott, but the hosts were soon to be behind once more.

Last season's top goal scorer Cosgrove got himself off the mark this term with the crucial winning goal 12 minutes from time, when he slid in from close range to turn in Robles' pass across the area.

Chances were created throughout the game, but Cosgrove clinical finish on this occasion was enough to see Latics over the line and collect all three points.

Latics: Evans, Burke, Barrigan, Anson, Harrison, Balogun, Redmayne (Baxendale 72), Purzycki (Lingard 64), Cosgrove, Robles, Cvetkovic
