PREVIEW

Latics have made an unbeaten start to their defences of the Final Third Development League West and FTDL Cup so far this season, drawing 0-0 last week to Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium, after winning 4-3 at Christopher Park against Wrexham.

Joe Parkinson has mixed his team in the opening two games of the campaign, using experience from the first team against Wrexham, while fielding a youthful defence against Fleetwood, who stood up to the test of experienced Football League players.

LAST SEASON

It was the first ever U21 Premier League Cup last year and both Preston and Latics faced early exits, with the visitors knocked out by Hull City 2-0 in the first qualifying round.

A 0-0 draw over 120 minutes saw Latics’ first qualifying round head to penalties against Burnley, with the Turf Moor side winning 7-6 in the shootout.

LAST MEETING

It was a thriller at Christopher Park in the Lancashire FA Senior Cup in November 2013, with Latics taking a 2-0 lead, before falling 4-2 behind, only to come back and win 5-4 in the last minute courtesy of a well taken Ryan Jennings goal.
