Leon Barnett and Josh Murphy join in with first week of Easter football camps.
Wigan Athletic’s Leon Barnett and Josh Murphy came down to one of Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s Pay as you Play football camps yesterday, which are running at several locations throughout the Easter school holidays.
Leon and Josh quickly got involved with the afternoon’s session at the Holy Cross High School camp, refereeing games of football tennis before joining in too and playing alongside the 6-14 year olds.
The Latics players made a good pair, going unbeaten against five different teams of the youngsters!
Leon said: “It was a joy for me and Josh to come down and meet the kids taking part. I wish I’d had the chance to play at a camp like this and to meet the professionals from my team when I was younger!
“It’s great that football camps like this are being provided for kids throughout the Easter holidays – they’re a brilliant way for them to meet new people and have something fun to do.”
32 youngsters were at yesterday’s Pay as you Play camp at Holy Cross and they were all excited to meet the Wigan Athletic stars.
Riley, 7 said: “I’m really looking forward to coming back for the rest of the week – it’s fun, you get to make new friends and play loads of football!”
Wigan Athletic Community Trust’s holiday camps are running for three weeks throughout the Easter holidays, with Latics Soccer Schools, Pay As You Play football and Latics Dance Camps all taking place.
