Former Latics manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed his attendance for the Dinner with Dave Whelan

Latics’ FA Cup winning manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed he will be attending A Dinner With Dave Whelan at the DW Stadium on April 29th – with more big name guests will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The current Everton manager, whose relationship with Dave Whelan was one of the magical ingredients during his time at the club, both as a player and a manager, will be a guest speaker on the night, and take his place in the audience as we paid tribute to Dave Whelan.

With some more very special guests to be announced, the evening will take you back through the highlights of 20 unforgettable years; in the presence of many people who helped to make it happen: players, managers, supporters.

The evening will include the presentation of the 2014-15 Supporters Player of The Year, Players’ Player of The Year and Michael Millet Award for the Under 18s Academy Player of The Year.

Then, the evening will move onto a celebration of the Dave Whelan years.

From the day Mr Whelan swept into Springfield Park in February 1995, things were never the same again…from winning promotion in 1997, 2003 and 2005 and fulfilling the promise to bring Premier League football to Wigan, to helping the team survive among the elite for eight years, beating every one of the biggest names in English football along the way.

Then, of course, came the cup triumphs:  the Autowindscreens Shield Trophy Final at Wembley, The League Cup Final at Cardiff Millennium Stadium and culminating of course when the man who made it all possible walked out onto the hallowed turf of Wembley on at around 7.30pm on May 11 2013 to lift the FA Cup in front of the ecstatic Wigan Athletic supporters.
