PREVIEW

After Port Vale pipped Latics to the Final Third Development League West title on goal difference last month, Joe Parkinson takes his side to the league champions in search of a place in the final of the League Cup against Middlesbrough to be scheduled for the upcoming pre-season.

Latics haven't played a competitive fixture since late March, and head into the clash in mixed form, having beaten Port Vale 2-1 in the league, before losing 3-0 away to Walsall and facing elimination from the Lancashire FA Cup on penalties against Bury.

The 2-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Jordan Flores and Tim Chow, was in stark contrast from the first meeting between Latics and the Valiants earlier this season, which saw the hosts win 5-1 at Vale Park.

ROUTE TO THE SEMI

Latics left it late in the group stages of the FTDL Cup, winning Northern Group D on goals scored over second place Fleetwood Town, after both sides finish on seven points from three games.

The top two played out a 0-0 draw in the opening fixture at Fleetwood's Highbury Stadium, before Latics won 4-0 at home against Tranmere Rovers and edged a 5-4 thriller at Christopher Park against Morecambe.
