Anson 49

Latics' race for top spot in the Football League Youth Alliance stayed well on course this weekend, with a comfortable 3-0 victory away to Accrington Stanley leaving Peter Atherton's side just one point behind leaders Bury and still with a game in hand.

A quick fire double from Louis Robles inside seven minutes gave Latics an early advantage at the Store First Stadium, with Adam Anson adding a third just four minutes into the second half.

Latics' 3-0 followed on from a 3-2 victory away at leaders Bury last Tuesday evening at the JD Stadium, and with the Shakers having just one game left this season, Latics still have an excellent opportunity to claim Under 18s silverware.

Leading goal scorer Robles made light work of Accrington's defence in the opening exchanges on Saturday, latching on to a threaded pass down the middle from Josh Gregory, before cutting inside the area onto his right foot and finding the bottom right corner.

The striker increased his tally for the season to 25 goals just two minutes later, controlling Callum Lang's cross from the right just outside the six yard box, before volleying home with ease.

Robles later turned provider for Latics' third, with strike partner Adam Anson rounding off the scoring.  After Latics won possession back inside Accrington's half, Robles aimed for the edge of the area down the left, cutting it across to Anson for a well placed finish into the bottom right corner.

Latics are still well in the title race in the Youth Alliance, with a Northern area final still to play in the League Cup this coming Wednesday and the Lancashire FA Youth Cup Final later this month.

Remaining league games will see Latics host fourth place Preston North End on Saturday 18 April, and a game yet to be re-arranged against third place Rochdale.

Latics: Evans, Baxendale, Lingard, Gregory (Merrie 73), Harrison, McNally, Lang (Barrigan 57), Purzycki, Anson, Robles (Sang 67), Lambert
