10 FACTS ABOUT KEVIN McNAUGHTON

Get to know Latics' new signing Kevin McNaughton.

1. Born 28 August 1982 in Dundee, Kevin McNaughton began his career with Aberdeen, progressing through the youth ranks before making his professional debut on 5 August 2000 as a half time substitute in a 2-1 victory against St. Mirren.

2. McNaughton spent seven years at Pittodrie Stadium, playing 202 times in all competitions for the Dons, including in the UEFA Cup.

3. During his formative footballing years, the defender played alongside Latics' boss Gary Caldwell for Scotland's Under 15 side.

4. McNaughton made his full international debut aged 19, in a 2-1 home defeat to Nigeria.  Alongside side him that day was former Latics defender Stephen Crainey, and scoring both goals for the Super Eagles was another familiar Latics name, that of Julius Aghahowa.

5. At the end of the 2001-02 season, McNaughton was awarded the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.

6. Ahead of the 2006/07 season, McNaughton joined Cardiff City, appearing 44 times in all competitions during his debut campaign.

7. 2007-08 saw McNaughton involved in Cardiff's run to the FA Cup final, scoring in an earlier round victory against Hereford United, before finishing runners-up against Portsmouth at Wembley Stadium.

8. During his time with Cardiff, McNaughton played at Wembley four times, including: the FA Cup semi-final and the FA Cup final in  2007-08, the Championship Play Off final 2009-10 and the League Cup final against Liverpool in 2011-12.

9. McNaughton was part of the Cardiff side that won the Championship and promotion to the Premier League in 2012-13.  He went on to play five times in the top tier for the Bluebirds.

10. Whilst with Cardiff, McNaughton had two separate loan spells with Bolton Wanderers, making 22 appearances in total.
