Shaq Coulthirst excited to gain experience on loan with Latics.
- Shaq Coulthirst signs for Latics on loan from Tottenham.
- Forward looking to repay faith shown by Gary Caldwell.
- Coulthirst has experience from loan spells with Leyton Orient, Torquay, Southend and York.
“Coming here to Wigan is extremely valuable for my career, but I want to be valuable to this club as well,” said Coulthirst.
“The gaffer has given me a chance to come in and play and it’s important for me to repay him.
“The chance to play for Wigan is very exciting, it’s an opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals whilst gaining regular first team minutes, that’s certainly the aim anyway.
“I’ve seen Will (Grigg) and Craig (Davies) play a lot before, they’re experience strikers at this level, so I’m looking forward to learning from them and taking their influences into my style of play.”
The 20-year-old forward has featured on loan for a number of Football League clubs over the past two seasons, picking up goals with each of the four, something he says has helped to develop his ‘powerful’ style of play.
“I’ve been out to four clubs already and had experiences at all four that have helped to shape my game.
“I’m still only young, but I’ve gained some vital experience already, especially last season at York City.
“We avoided relegation from League Two which was certainly character building for me. Hopefully this season I’ll be at the right end of the table here at Wigan and experiencing that feeling of success again.”
“I’m a strong, aggressive player who likes to score goals and I’ve been happy with what I’ve achieved so far in the amount of starts I’ve had.
“This is the highest level I’ve played at so far away from Tottenham, so it’s an exciting time and hopefully I can add more goals whilst I’m here.”
