Gary looks ahead to the midweek visit of Mark Robins’ Scunthorpe United.

  • Positives to take into game from Doncaster draw.
  • Caldwell expects hard working Scunthorpe.
  • No fresh injury worries ahead of clash.

Caldwell on Sunday’s draw

“Looking back at Doncaster we did a lot of good things in the 90 minutes, but we know that we need to do more to get our first win.

“The boys are confident, it was good to get our first point and the clean sheet will go a long way to establishing our defence.

“We had to stand up to a physical challenge in the second half, we put ourselves under pressure from corners, but managed to stand up to it.

“I think our defending in those situations showed the spirit in the group to pull together and defend, and it’s something we’ll have to keep on top of in this division.

“We pulled together through those sticky spells on Sunday and we’ll look to build on the point and the clean sheet.”

Caldwell on opening games

“Naturally I’m disappointed with the points return from our opening games, but I’ve been happy with how we’ve played so far.

“I can see things coming together, I knew it would take time with so many outs and ins, but I can see a lot of partnerships forming and I can see players growing into their roles within the club.

“We want to achieve that as quickly as we can and we want to get the results as quickly as we can, but there’s a process that we’re going through, there’s a style of football that we want to try and play.  We knew when we started the process of recruiting at the end of last season that this was going to take time.”

Caldwell on team news

“Everyone is fine at the moment, we’ve had no new injury worries and the squad is starting to take shape in terms of numbers.

“On Sunday I had to disappoint people by them not being in the starting XI and by not being on the bench and it’s going to be the same against Scunthorpe, but it’s a good headache to have.”

Caldwell on Scunthorpe

“Scunthorpe are a very hard working team, they usually play 3-5-2 and they can give teams problems with players playing off the front two.

“Mark Robins has got his team mixing up their play, their comfortable going long or short, so it’s a fixture that definitely poses a difficult challenge.

“At this stage of the season we need to focus on ourselves and work on the things we want to do more of, if we do that then I’m sure we’ll see the result we want.”
