The Under 18s booked their place in the second round of the Football League Youth Alliance Cup with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers at the weekend, with goals from Callum Lang, Chris Sang and James Barrigan.
Will Ryder's side looked confident throughout the 90 minutes despite being pegged back just before half time from one of Tranmere's rare chances.
A headed goal from Lang put Latics ahead inside the 14th minute, with the forward getting onto the end of Barrigan's cross from the left.
The hosts equalised five minutes before the break when they caught Latics cold on a corner, the ball dropping on the edge of the six yard box for Udoyen Akpan to blast home.
Sang soon restored Latics' lead after the break, another cross causing problems for Tranmere after a flowing move from midfield.
Matthew Rimmer switched play from right to left out to Alex Lingard, with the full back's cross flicked on into the path of Sang for an emphatic close range finish.
Latics rounded off a third consecutive victory in style when Barrigan curled in a free kick from 25 yards for 3-1.
