BARNSLEY PRICES TURN CLOCK BACK 25 YEARS

3 December 2015

Adult tickets for Saturday’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area Semi-Final against Barnsley are the cheapest price for a Saturday Wigan Athletic match since the early 90s.

  • Prices for Barnsley fixture are £5 for adults and £1 for Under 18s.
  • Tickets represent best value football in the top eight tiers on Saturday, with prices reminiscent of the early 1990s.
  • Chairman David Sharpe: “We want to rewards our supporters’ loyalty.”
WIGAN ATHLETIC v BARNSLEY
JOHNSTONE’S PAINT TROPHY
NORTHERN AREA SEMI-FINAL
SATURDAY 5 DECEMBER
3.00pm KICK-OFF
ADULTS £5.00
UNDER 18s £1.00

Wigan Athletic’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area Semi-Final against Barnsley this coming Saturday 5 December at the DW Stadium will see prices reminiscent of the early 1990s - nowhere in the top eight divisions of English football are supporters likely to find a cheaper admission for a Saturday 3.00pm kick-off.

Not since Springfield Park in the early 90s when the likes of Peter Atherton, Joe Parkinson and Don Page were regulars in the team, have supporters paid as little to watch their side. Even a ticket to watch Latics take on Lincoln City in December 1997 in the Auto Windscreens Shield cost £10.00.

Chairman David Sharpe wants Latics fans to respond to this gesture by turning up in their numbers as the club looks to take another step closer to Wembley.

“We need the fans to get behind us,” he said. “Let’s have another large DW crowd, as we have seen all season.”

“Should we get through this round, there is just the Northern Final over two legs to get through before a possible trip to Wembley.

“It’s an incredible price to watch a game of professional football in this day and age, but we’re doing it to reward our supporters’ loyalty.

“They have been superb this season, backing us home and away in their numbers, and this is a gesture the club can offer in return.”

Supporters can purchase tickets in advance by calling the DW Stadium Ticket Office on 0871 66 33 552* or in person from the DW Stadium, though, cash turnstiles will operate for every stand at the DW Stadium.

*Calls cost 10 pence per minute from a BT Landline. Calls from other networks and mobiles may cost more.
