Official Club Charity of the Season DIAS appeal for fans to support Project Shoebox for victims of domestic violence.

Wigan Athletic’s Official Club Charity for the 2015-16 season, domestic violence support group DIAS, are asking supporters to help with a Christmas Shoebox appeal for domestic violence victims this Christmas.

Domestic violence occurs throughout the year, but Christmas time especially can be an incredibly difficult period for men, women and children who are experiencing abuse, with an increase in reports of domestic violence being made to a number of police forces across the country during the holiday period.

Project Shoebox aims to provide victims of domestic abuse, who have sought support in domestic violence refuges over Christmas, with useful items that men, women, children and families can use while they are in the refuges.

Really useful items that can be put into the shoeboxes include: shower gel, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, deodorant and a hair brush or comb.

Further suggestions of what to put in your shoebox can be found [here].

Shoeboxes can be dropped off at DIAS’ offices, at 38 Rodney House, King Street, Wigan, WN1 1BT. Please leave your shoebox unwrapped, so that contents can be checked prior to being distributed.

The shoeboxes that are dropped off at DIAS will be distributed to shelters primarily in Wigan and Leigh.

DIAS are asking for all of the shoeboxes to be dropped off by Friday 11th December, in order for the boxes to be checked, wrapped and distributed in time for Christmas day.
