Sky Bet League One

Latics looking for third straight win, following Fleetwood and Barnsley victories.

Latics begin the New Year on the road for the third consecutive Sky Bet League One fixture, when they head to Scunthorpe United on Saturday 2 January for a 3.00pm kick off at Glanford Park.

The Iron proved to be Latics' first victory of the 2015/16 campaign, a comfortable 3-0 win at the DW Stadium, and Gary Caldwell's side will be looking to start 2016 in a similar fashion, following on from consecutive away wins against Barnsley and Fleetwood Town at the end of December.

Scunthorpe's festive fortunes were mixed, losing 1-0 at home to Sheffield United on the 19th, before a 1-0 victory away to Doncaster Rovers, followed by a 1-1 at home against Rochdale.  An accumulation of four points out of a possible nine sees Mark Robins' side sat 14th in the league table, just six points from a play-off spot.

Latics currently occupy fifth spot, eight points from an automatic promotion place and three ahead of seventh place Southend United.

Grant Holt available for selection following loan at Wolves.

Stephen Dawson made a return to action for Scunthorpe on Monday afternoon against Rochdale, his first appearance following a four-month lay off with injury, whilst for Latics, Chris McCann made his return from a short-term injury picked up against Southend when he was introduced in the second half during Latics' 3-1 win at Fleetwood.

Kevin McNaughton continues to recover from his long-term injury, whilst Grant Holt is now available for Latics having returned from his loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Grigg gave Latics an early lead from the penalty spot inside the third minute, before Daniels doubled the lead midway through the first half to score his first goal for the club.  Davies also grabbed his first for Latics with 20 minutes remaining to round off a confident victory.
