Midfielder requiring surgery after knee injury at Reading. In his press conference this morning ahead of Friday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic manager Malky Mackay confirmed the news that midfielder Chris Herd will be side lined for the rest of the 2014/15 campaign following a knee injury sustained against Reading on Tuesday evening.
Herd has suffered medial ligament damage and will require surgery, meaning a return to his parent club Aston Villa.
Following the news, Mackay said:
“Chris has torn his medial ligament badly and will need surgery back at Aston Villa.
“That’s the end of his time here, unfortunately, because he’s been terrific for us in the last few weeks.
“He came in here with a freshness, he’s a leader and he was looking to kick-start his career so it’s a real blow for him.
“I’m sure it’s something that he’ll make sure is done properly and he’ll get back to full fitness because he’s a good kid.
“It’s a real blow on the back of Grant Holt, Emyr Huws and Juan Carlos Garcia’s situations in the last month.”
