Leading Development Squad goal scorer Ryan Jennings took his tally to eight for the season at the Globe Arena as a hard-working team performance earned a 2-0 victory at strugglers Morecambe on Tuesday.

Jennings' early opener after six minutes was added to just before half time, and a comfortable second half display coupled a well earned clean sheet with the forward's well taken double.

The victory saw Latics keep hold of their top spot in the Final Third Development League West, but they sit just a point above Port Vale who have two games in hand following their 3-1 win away at Wrexham.

Just six minutes into the game at the Globe, Jennings was fed down the left channel by Liam Lambert, latching onto a perfectly weighted pass, before cutting inside, tricking the defender with a step over and driving the ball into the bottom right corner.

Seven minutes before half time Jennings doubled Latics' lead with his second of the game, this time Mayowa Balogun turned provider, but Jennings still had work to do, as he controlled a solid pass in the area, but lashing towards the top left corner on the turn.

Latics kept it tight in the second half, seeing out a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Three league games remain for Joe Parkinson's side and next up is a home game against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday 10 March.
