Jermaine Pennant joins Latics.

  • Free agent Jermaine Pennant becomes Malky Mackay’s 10th signing at Wigan Athletic.
  • Mackay – “He’s got terrific experience and is hungry for a way back into the English scene.”
  • Highly experienced winger Jermaine Pennant has joined Wigan Athletic until the end of the season.
The 32-year-old is a free agent after coming to the end of his contract at FC Pune City in the Indian Super League and signs on at Wigan Athletic after impressing during training this week.

He was at the DW Stadium for the match against Charlton Athletic tonight and the paperwork was completed directly after the match.

He becomes the 10th player to sign since the turn of the year and Latics manager Malky Mackay is hoping the experience of a playing CV which includes Arsenal, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Stoke City and 24 caps for England U21s can help the side.

“Jermaine needs no introduction in terms of what he has achieved in the game,” he said, “he’s got terrific experience and is hungry for a way back into the English scene. There were a number of clubs interested, so we are delighted we can now call upon him to help us.

“He has been with us throughout the week and has trained excellently, he's brought a breath of fresh air to the place and we've been bowled over by his hunger and enthusiasm.

“Jermaine has integrated straight away into the group and I'm sure he's going to be a great addition for us.”

Pennant will wear the number 15 shirt for Latics.
