Latics boss presents winners of multi-sport tournament.

Wigan Athletic Community Trust organised a multi-sport competition for six Wigan schools on Friday 13th February, through the Premier League 4 Sport program.

Premier League 4 Sport, which is supported by the Premier League and Sport England, provides 100’s of young people every week in Wigan, with the opportunity to take part in different Olympic sports, including: athletics, badminton, basketball, netball, hockey, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.

Last week’s tournament, which took place at Wigan Youth Zone, included six of the different sports, giving the students an insight into the variety of sessions that are provided by the Community Trust.

Latics manager Malky Mackay was also on hand to present the winners from St Peter’s High School, with their medals.

Malky said: “It’s been brilliant to come here today and to see so many youngsters from around Wigan enjoying and taking part in the variety of sport that our Community Trust provide.

“Wigan Youth Zone is a fantastic facility and it’s been great to have a look around and to see everything that’s available for the children and teenagers of Wigan.”

Four media students from Golborne High School also attended the event, filming and taking photographs throughout the day.

The students finished off the tournament by interviewing Malky Mackay, asking questions that they gathered from those taking part in the competition.

One of the media students, Zeke Creese, said: “It was a brilliant experience to come and film at the event; it gave me a great insight into the different media jobs I could do in the future.

"I found it really interesting and it was great to have the chance to speak to Malky Mackay too.”
