- Sheyi Ojo joins Latics on loan.
- 17-year-old signs from Liverpool on deadline day.
- Malky Mackay excited by Ojo's pace, touch and awareness.
The 17-year-old winger is yet to make a first team appearance for Liverpool, but has been training with the first team this season and has recently been involved in matchday squads for Premier League fixtures against Burnley and Leicester City.
Ojo becomes Latics’ fifth signing this month following the arrivals of Liam Ridgewell, Chris Herd, Billy Mckay and Jason Pearce and manager Malky Mackay says he is delighted with the capture of an exciting young player:
“I spoke to Brendan Rodgers at length about Sheyi”, he said, “and we both agreed that this is the next stage of his development. Brendan sees him as a Liverpool player of the future and will take him into his squad in the summer. We both hope that his time at Wigan Athletic can be a productive one for both parties.
“I have watched him and was excited by what I saw in terms of his pace, touch and awareness. Now it’s a question of integrating him with our squad and managing his progress carefully.”
Ojo began his career at MK Dons, joining Liverpool in 2011 and going on to represent the club at Under 18 and Under 21 levels.
