- Bid from Middlesbrough ‘very good’ – Malky Mackay.
- Malky Mackay: “The deal had to be in the best long-term interests of Wigan Athletic.”
Forshaw travelled to the North-East to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms before signing and being officially unveiled as a Boro player today.
Manager Malky Mackay said: “A surprise bid came in for Adam, and it was a very good one that we felt was acceptable to us. He said he wanted to talk to them and that being the case, we gave him permission to talk to them.
“I can only say that in the short time we worked together I found him to be a terrific professional but for one reason or another it’s not worked out here and we wish him the very best of luck at Middlesbrough.”
Forshaw’s transfer from former club Brentford was only completed on transfer deadline day last September and he has gone on to play 16 Sky Bet Championship games for Latics, scoring once, a penalty against Fulham. He also played in one FA Cup match, against Bolton Wanderers.
