Let Barry's story inspire you to achieve your weight loss and fitness goals!
Do you want to improve your fitness and get in shape after over indulging this Christmas?
Fit Fans, a men’s health scheme exclusively provided by Wigan Athletic Community Trust, could be the perfect way for you to get fit and active this January!
The 12 week programme has helped hundreds of men over the age of 25 to lose weight, eat healthier and to play more sport since it was introduced in 2012.
Fit Fan and keen Latics supporter, Barry Worthington, lost over 4 stone through the programme last year.
Following a stroke and other health scares in recent years, Barry joined Fit Fans and found it to be the perfect way to lose weight and become healthier, as well as keeping him motivated to continue the regime once the course was over.
Barry said: “I cannot recommend the course highly enough - I have found it to be a life changer. I was a type 2 diabetic with all of the usual complications and now I am a healthy 55-year-old enjoying being active.
He added: “I take great pride in people telling me that I look great. I tell them about the inspirational Fit Fans programme and I have already encouraged friends and family to sign up and take part, which they have done.”
Since completing the programme, Barry has continued to lead the healthier lifestyle that Fit Fans introduced and has gone on to lose over four stone in total.
He was also part of the team that ran the Wigan 10K last summer, in an effort to raise money and awareness for the Community Trust.
Wigan Council’s Director of Public Health, Professor Kate Ardern said: “We are passionate about our sporting heritage in Wigan and recognise that local sports clubs have an important role to play in improving the health of local communities.
“Fit Fans provides an opportunity to reach people that may not access health services in the traditional way and it is fantastic to see the positive impact that this is having on the health of local people”
